Are you considering becoming a Younique presenter, now known as Brand Ambassador? Before you dive in, there are a few things that you should know. As a founding Younique presenter myself, I learned some valuable lessons along the way that I wish I knew before I started. Here are four things that I wish I knew before becoming a Younique brand ambassador:
Don’t Overthink
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the information and training materials provided by Younique. However, don’t overthink it. Start with the basics, learn the products, and get comfortable with the sales process. You don’t need to know everything right away. Take it one step at a time and be patient with yourself.
One of the things I overthought was branding. Trainers say you need the branding to stand out and differentiate yourself from all the other brand ambassadors. I started out as “Your Make-Up Girl” and Younique By Linds but thought it was too general, then went by Fierce Fab Linds, which had a whole backstory cause Fierce rhymes with Pierce, and Fierce and Fabulous were part of the original mineral foundation products. But you know what, I’m me – and that’s who I want everyone to know when they think of someone who loves saving money on everyday things and traveling, having fun with makeup, and enjoying life with her boys. That’s what I talk about, so that’s all I really ever needed to be doing from the beginning.
Keep It Simple
As a Younique brand ambassador, you may feel pressure to create elaborate makeup looks and use all the latest techniques. But sometimes, less is more. Keep your makeup looks simple and focus on enhancing your natural beauty. Remember, your customers want to learn how to use the products in their everyday lives, not just for special occasions.
Again, this is just about you doing the same things but just adding what you love about makeup to the mix. Keep it authentic and more about your everyday life so that people don’t get sick of all the makeup posts or sounding too salesy. With our more brand ambassador/affiliate marketing type pay plan, the rewards are there if you want to just do this on your own, but you also want to keep those relationships and not chase off friends and family and maybe eventually build a team.
I do train my team on a few additional things from they are already doing in making their time spent on social media more intentional and less about just scrolling and posting but if you’re already spending time on social media apps, this is one of the best ways to monetize and build on that!
Culture of Positivity and Sisterhood
One of the best things about being a Younique brand ambassador is the sense of community and sisterhood. Surround yourself with positive, uplifting women who will support and encourage you on your journey. Attend local and virtual events, connect with other brand ambassadors on social media, and be open to making new friends. This is how the Yesties term came about- Younique besties = Yesties!
One of the biggest uplifting things each year is attending the Convention. This year we’re celebrating our 10th annual in Salt Lake City. They are also doing a 5K/10K for Saprea, the cause Younique has for helping women who were sexually abused as a child and helping prevent it for other children. I have only missed one year, and it was a sad weekend because I do love that in-person connection with other team members and professional development but luckily I got to still attend virtually.
Always Growing
As a Younique brand ambassador, you have the opportunity to grow and develop your skills constantly. Take advantage of the training materials, attend events, and ask questions. You never know what you may learn, and you may be surprised at the skills you develop. Remember, you are always growing, both personally and professionally.
I enjoy doing this by reading personal development books and finding uplifting quotes. These are easy to share with others as well so you can use them as content and get conversations started.
Becoming a Younique brand ambassador can be an exciting and rewarding journey. Keep it simple, surround yourself with positivity, and always be open to learning and growing. And remember, don’t overthink it! Take it one step at a time, and you’ll be well on your way to success.
