What to Pin When You Haven’t Used Pinterest in Months
Some links included in this post may be affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission—at no extra cost to you—if you choose to purchase through them. I only share products I use, love, or believe in. Thank you for supporting my content and helping me keep the Ohana Getaways going strong!

I have a question for business owners who have a website, blog, freebie, service, product, podcast, YouTube channel, or resource library:
Why aren’t you using Pinterest?
I’m not asking that in a shamey “you’re doing business wrong” way. I fought Pinterest myself because I assumed it was one more social platform that expected me to show up constantly.
I already knew what it took to keep multiple social accounts active. Even when posts were scheduled, someone still had to create the plan, write the captions, make graphics, check the links, and decide what to say next.
I did not need another hungry little platform standing there with an empty bowl.
Then I realized Pinterest did not work like the platforms I was comparing it to.
People use Pinterest to search for ideas, answers, products, plans, and resources. They do not need to know you first. They do not have to follow you before your content can help them.
That was the part that changed my mind.
If you have something useful online, Pinterest can give people another way to find it.
So if your Pinterest account has been sitting untouched for three months, eight months, or since the last time everyone was making banana bread, you do not need a comeback announcement.
You need to choose something useful and start pinning again.
You Probably Have More to Pin Than You Think
One reason people stop using Pinterest is that they believe they need a constant supply of new content.
They look at their account and think, “I don’t have anything to post.”
Meanwhile, their website has six blog posts, a lead magnet, two service pages, an About page that explains their entire approach, and a folder full of videos they made last year.
That is content.
Your Pinterest plan does not have to begin with what you can create next. It can begin with what already exists.
Start by opening your website, YouTube channel, podcast page, shop, or resource library. Look for the pieces that still answer a question, solve a problem, explain your work, or lead people toward something helpful.
You are not trying to fill Pinterest with random activity. You are giving your best content more ways to be found.
1. Pin Your Most Useful Evergreen Content
Start with content that is still helpful even though it is not new.
This might be a blog post, tutorial, guide, checklist, FAQ page, podcast episode, or video that answers a question your audience continues to ask.
One of my reminders of this is an old Mary Poppins time-management post. It has continued to be one of my most searched pieces of content. It is not breaking news. Mary Poppins has not launched a surprise productivity app.
The content continues to work because people still want help with the problem it addresses.
Look for content in your own library that has that same quality.
Ask yourself:
- Does this answer a question people still ask?
- Would this help someone who discovered it today?
- Does it relate to something I currently offer?
- Is there a useful next step on the page?
Choose one or two of those pieces first.
2. Pin Your Free Resource
If you have a free checklist, guide, quiz, template, email series, workshop, or downloadable resource, that should be near the top of your list.
A free resource gives someone a clear next step after finding you.
This matters because Pinterest traffic should not arrive at your business and run into a dead end. The goal is not simply to get someone to click. The goal is to help them find the next useful thing.
Make sure the landing page is still current. Check the headline, description, form, delivery email, and any links inside the freebie.
Then create a few pins that approach the resource from different angles.
For example, a Pinterest profile checklist could be promoted with pin topics such as:
- Pinterest profile mistakes that make your business harder to find
- What your Pinterest bio should tell people
- A quick Pinterest account check for business owners
- How to know whether your Pinterest boards still match your business
The destination stays the same, but each pin connects with a different question.
3. Pin a Service or Product People Can Actually Buy
Business owners sometimes treat Pinterest like a place where they can share tips but not mention their offers.
You are allowed to pin something people can buy.
The key is to make the pin useful and clear. Do not drop a vague graphic that says “Work With Me” and expect Pinterest to understand what it means.
Use the words a potential client or customer might search.
A travel advisor could create a pin about Disney vacation planning services. A photographer could pin a family session preparation guide that leads to a booking page. A business strategist could pin a service page about content planning or operations support.
Your offer does not need to pretend it is not an offer. It does need to make sense to someone who has never met you.
4. Pin Content That Explains What You Do
Sometimes people are interested in your work, but they do not understand exactly what you help with.
This is especially common for service providers.
You may understand the difference between an audit, consultation, VIP Day, setup package, or retainer. A person finding you through search may not.
Pin content that explains:
- Who your service is for
- What problem it helps solve
- What the process looks like
- What someone leaves with
- What they should do before hiring you
This could lead to a service page, FAQ page, case study, blog post, video, or podcast episode.
Good educational content can help someone understand your offer without forcing the pin itself to do all the selling.
5. Pin Seasonal Content Before the Season Arrives
Pinterest users often plan before they buy, book, cook, decorate, teach, travel, or launch.
That means seasonal content should be shared earlier than it would be on social media.
At the end of July, people may already be searching for fall business ideas, back-to-school resources, holiday planning, fourth-quarter offers, and seasonal travel.
Look through your existing content for anything connected to the next few months.
You do not have to rebuild it from scratch. You may need to update the page, check the links, refresh a graphic, or adjust the title so it matches what people are searching for now.
The point is to give the content enough time to be discovered before the moment passes.
You Do Not Need a Thirty-Day Comeback Challenge
You do not have to pin fifty things this weekend.
You do not have to create seven new boards because someone on the internet said you should.
You do not have to punish yourself for ignoring Pinterest.
Start with three to five useful links:
- One evergreen piece of content
- One free resource
- One offer or product
- One piece that explains your work
- One seasonal resource
Then create a few pin ideas for each link.
That is enough to begin seeing your existing content as a library instead of a pile of old posts.
But Seriously, Why Aren’t You on Pinterest?
If your entire answer is, “I thought it was another social media platform,” I understand. That was my answer too.
If your answer is, “I have nothing to pin,” I would gently challenge that.
If you have a business with a website, offer, free resource, blog, product, podcast, video library, or helpful information, you probably have something worth finding.
Your next step is not to create a mountain of new content.
Your next step is to look at what you already have and choose the first useful link.
My free Pinterest Profile Checklist will help you review your profile, boards, keywords, and links so you can see what needs attention before you start pinning again.
Your Pinterest account does not need a dramatic comeback.
It needs a clearer path.
